KATY MERSMANN

As a convergence journalism student at the University of Missouri, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of newsrooms, focusing on producing high-quality multiplatform journalism. In each newsroom, I focused on different reporting styles and formats to tell the stories in interesting and compelling ways.

 

RJI Futures Lab Update

As a reporter for the Futures Lab, I produce video stories focusing on innovations in journalism and technology related to reporting and creating news. I find stories, contact and interview sources and produce video packages to run in weekly episodes.

 

Columbia Missourian

As a graphics reporter for the Missourian, I produce day-turn infographics, both to run static in print and as interactive pieces online to accompany text stories. I also work on longer-term, stand-alone graphics to provide deeper insight into news stories.

 

CNN

As the medical unit intern at CNN, I participated in the kind of broad journalism done at a major network. Although CNN's primary outlet is broadcast, I produced and assisted with text and graphic pieces, as well as video stories that aired both on CNN and CNN.com

 

Global Journalist

At Global Journalist, I was responsible for contacting and confirming sources for the Global Journalist radio show, as well as producing supplementary multimedia content to run online.

Columbia Faith and Values was my first experience reporting on religion. I created multimedia pieces focusing on how religion and faith impact the lives of Columbia residents, ,including one long radio piece that ran on KBIA 91.3, with supplementary content online.

While working for KBIA, the mid-Missouri NPR affiliate, I had the opportunity to produce stories to run on air, both as anchor-reads and longer stories with my own voicing.
